¶ Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”John 4:10

I wonder if we in the 21st Century grasp the “gift of God?” “…the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23) Life… the God-life that comes into our infinite existence to join Himself with us.

Christ became the son of man so that we could become the children of God. Had he not lowered himself as to come down to us, none of us could ever have gone to him by any merits of our own. (Leo the Great)

I have watched my children open gifts for thirty years. I have experienced their joy as they received gifts from their Mother and I. It has been one of the sweetest blessing of our lives. And the amazing thing is we never once had to tell them to “have joy.” Joy was the by-product of receiving a gift.

I look into the eyes of believers today and I sometimes wonder if they have received “the gift of God,” maybe they’ve just forgotten.

No wonder Christ told us to “remember”! Remember “the Gift of God and who it is who says to you….He would give you living water.”   And remember every time you receive a “gift,” say “Thank you.”
