We all watched in horror as that black wall of water rose out of the Pacific ocean to slam into the fishing communities of northern Japan traveling at the speed of a jetliner. We have learned that it was an earthquake that resulted in a shift in the tectonic plates of the ocean floor several hundred miles off shore that would then bring this wave crashing towards land.

One thing (earthquake), caused another thing (a shift in ocean floor), which in fact caused another thing (tidal-wave), and that “thing” swept other things into it’s massive self. As the thirty foot wall of water came to shore it simply picked up everything in its path and used it to destroy entire communities. Buildings, cars, boats, buses, any “thing” and every “thing” became part of the massive destructive force that overwhelmed the people of northern Japan.

The vivid imagery can bring any one to tears. The utter devastion that was done by this wave of things is overwhelming. One thing stacked on top of other things and suddenly without warning these things can destroy everything.

Over the last few days as I have been praying for the people of Japan I have come to realize just how vunerable we as a society at large are to tsunamis. Due to the increase of technology and information systems the sheer volume of things that enter into our lives continues to increase.

We no longer given the choice as to whether or not we can multi-task we are forced to handle multiple issues all the time. Waves and waves of problems, issues, challenges are unleased upon every person daily.

THINGS, THINGS, THINGS, — THE TSUMANI OF THE 21ST CENTURTY!

So much, too much is happening all at the same time for any one to handle. The vivid pictures coming out of Japan are a good look at what is happening to the human soul right now. Waves filled with things to numerous to name are taking their toll on our lives, and in some cases utterly destroying them.

To much pressure in the wrong foundational point causes a wave on the surface of our lives. A wave that will swept many things into a huge destructive force.

There is “good news!” Paul said; “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:37-39

Though we are living in a time of many “things” we are also the “beloved” of the Father. In the midst of things His love for us will prevail. The message that we must remember is that the enemy uses “thing” in an attempt to separate us from the Father.

Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Matt. 4:8-9

The enemy of humanity tried to separate Christ for the Father by tempting Him with things. Things, lots and lots of things can be used to harm us, but ultimately we must remember “no created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Even this morning as I watched the news I heard the text; “…while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2Cor. 4:18. There is so much more going on in the world than we can see. We serve a God who knows how to “cause all things to work together for the good of those who love God.” (Rom. 8:28).

So there are many things racing into our own life everyday. You may be overwhelmed by things! My prayer is not only for Japan but for every human being living in this century! May God deliver us from the destruction of these waves!
